Post Con '09

So, FanExpo '09 is over and it was...interesting. I had a good time but bloody hell, was business slow. I pretty much made back the money on my table but was unable to make back the cost of prints. I also realized that when I go to another con, I have got to do more fanart. What I discovered is that most people don't go to cons for art, they go to cons so that they can get pics of their favourite characters. Then again, that is just the nature of the beast -- I learned some good lessons this year and will be able to use that to my advantage when I go to my next con.

Anyhoo, on to pictures! First up, some sketches I did to pass the time at the con:

Finally done with all this cloning business. As you can see, I've done both Akuma and Dan, based on the original Ryu model. The final image is a piece I've put together for the Con, combining all characters into one image.

Déjà vu.


A companion piece to yesterday's work. I made a heinous error in giving Ken a bandana (protip: he doesn't wear one) but, oh well, I'm sick of looking at this. I can't help but feel kinda cheap about this one either, seeing as I just rehashed yesterday's piece -- then again, that's part of the joke, anyone that's familiar with Street fighter will get it.

Quarter circle towards, PUNCH.

Arguably the most iconic beat 'em up videogame character of all time, he's always been my character of choice in bouts of Street Fighter.

Unnnhhhhh...I feel about ready to drop right now, it took all I could just to put together this lovely interpretation of my pain. How considerably emo of me.

Sleep deprivation.

My sleep patterns of late have been incredibly bad, I'm getting plenty of sleep but am going to bed later and later, meaning I'm getting up later and later. I love a good sleep but nothing leaves you feeling crappy like staying in the bed too long. So, I'm attempting to pull an all-nighter and try to put my body clock back on track again. The above are some doodles I did to keep myself occupied.

Epic thunder storms make me happy.

So, I got caught in the torrential downpours that resulted from the huge storm clouds over Toronto today. It really was a thing of epic beauty.

Don't ask me why but there's something about epic thunder storms that I just love. It's funny because I remember as a kid, I was awoken one night back at my Grandmother's in Ireland by flashes of lightning outside my window. My parents then took me downstairs to the sitting room and tried to comfort me by telling me that the lightning flashes were actually representing He-Man and Skeletor fighting in the sky! Needless to say, from that point on, thunder and lightning have always fascinated me.

Blackstar part two is done and dusted, aside from a few bits and pieces of digital tinkering, this baby's ready to go! I just have to wait for Aidan (Oh Most Glorious Overlord Editor Person) to get back to me with the translation of the English script into Irish.

This will be the only spot where you'll get to see the full comic in English, so keep those peepers peeled! For now, the above dash for caffeine is what you get.

Blackstar: The Final Stretch.

Alrighty, slowly but surely I'm getting through inking Blackstar numero deux -- besides some awkward inks on the last page, this has been plain sailing thus far. I'm hoping to have the final inks up within the next few days. For now, here's a sneak peek at how it looks right now.

Freaks

I'm taking a break from working on Blackstar today, the heat and humidity crossed with a bad night's sleep aren't helping in the slightest so I thought I'd do some doodles, just to keep my drawing hand active.

Another Blackstar Page

So, got most of the pencils done for another page of Blackstar today. I must admit that this page was quite difficult to figure out but once I got some niggles sorted out in thumb sketches it was plain sailing. Also, you'll notice that I've posted an updated version of page 4, I made an absolute disaster in trying to ink the original panel 1 (which wasn't that well drawn to begin with). I decided that redoing the panel was better than causing myself more frustration -- I'm sure you'll agree that it melds much better than the original version did.

Also, I finally got my business cards today. Unfortunately, I forgot to add a link to this very blog on the bloody thing so I now have to hand-write those details on the back of every card. All 250 of them.

Oh well. We make mistakes so we can learn.

Final version of a piece I've done for the upcoming FanExpo in Toronto. Not sure if this'll sell much considering it's not fanart but who cares? I enjoyed putting this together and hopefully that shows.
